A man accused of sexually abusing a child at a Washington, DC, park has filed a civil suit accusing his lawyer of negligence and malpractice.
Lawyers for a man accused by another man of sexually assaulting children in a park in 2010 and 2011 claim they were not properly advised by the attorney for the accuser, and the attorney has not been fired.
In the lawsuit filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the attorney alleges that he was “misled” into representing the accused by his own client.
The suit, filed on behalf of the accuser and his mother, says the lawyer failed to provide any evidence to back up his claims.
It alleges the accuser did not receive any counseling from the lawyer or from his staff and that the attorney failed to protect him.
The lawsuit, which is seeking unspecified damages, is the latest lawsuit involving allegations of abuse at a Maryland park.
In 2013, an attorney for a Maryland man accused a 13-year-old boy of sexually molesting him, but prosecutors declined to press charges against him.
